The Pittsburgh Steelers have a long-withstanding tradition of toughness and grit.
They built and developed an identity for years, an identity that transcends the gridiron and can be seen all over town as well.
That’s why Pittsburgh isn’t the place for everybody.
With that in mind, star DT Cam Heyward warned Russell Wilson about the kind of person and player they want there.
Talking to Kay Adams for her Up & Adams Show, Heyward revealed that he actually talked to Wilson for a couple of hours before he signed with the team.
4x All Pro #Steelers DT @CamHeyward on what he told QB Russell Wilson before signing with Pittsburgh… 🔊
“I told him (Pittsburgh) isn’t the place for glitz and glamour, this is the place where gladiators come… and he was receptive to that.” @DangeRussWilson @heykayadams pic.twitter.com/s2pKtOusRw

He let him know that Pittsburgh wasn’t a place for glitz and glamour; it was a place for gladiators and competitors, and he was reportedly very receptive to that.
Russell Wilson may not have a reputation for being the toughest person in the league, at least when we talk about his personality, but he’s a fierce competitor every single time he sets foot on the field.
His ego and pride have taken big hits over the past couple of years, and he wants to prove that he’s never been the problem and still has plenty left in the tank.
There’s no better place to do so than Pittsburgh.
Win there, and you become a legend, especially after everything they’ve been through over the past five years or so.
The fans will embrace those who leave it all on the field, and Wilson will have a huge chip on his shoulder from the very start of the season.
