After the Brooklyn Nets blew up their team led by superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the team seemed to be quite fond of what Mikal Bridges brought to the table, as he looked like a player that could be the No. 1 option on an NBA squad.
Although Bridges showed his ability to be a star player during his short stint with the Nets, Brooklyn decided this summer it was time to continue the rebuilding process by trading him to the New York Knicks, even though the consensus seemed to be that he was untouchable in Brooklyn.
As a result of the blockbuster trade to the Knicks, New York now has one of the most stacked rosters in the league, which already proved its worth while playing at Villanova on the college level, as Bridges reunites with college teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo.
With Bridges getting the chance to start fresh with the Knicks, where he won’t have to go far compared to when he was shipped from Phoenix, he said goodbye to the fans in Brooklyn with an Instagram post.
It’ll be interesting to see what impact this trade has on both franchises, as some believe the Knicks are now a perennial title contender with the addition of Bridges, while the Nets could become the worst team in the league next season.
Trading Bridges might have been the first of many trades made by Brooklyn this summer as they try to bottom out and start from scratch.
