Canada’s men’s basketball releases Trae Bell-Haynes from roster

Canada’s Olympic men’s basketball team has released guard Trae Bell-Haynes from its roster ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the team announced on Saturday.

The six-foot-two, Toronto native spent the 2023-2024 campaign playing in Spain’s top league, Liga ACB with Basket Zaragoza.Bell-Haynes recorded 12.7 points and 5.3 assists per game on 49 per cent shooting from the floor while knocking down 38 per cent of his threes.

The 28-year-old suited up for his country last summer as the team secured a historic bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup. The third-place finish was Canada’s first medal at a Men’s World Cup in team history.

Following other cuts, as well as seeing recent NBA draftee Zach Edey depart to focus on preparing for his pro career, the release of Bell-Haynes shortens Canada’ roster to 15 players. Now, the team will travel to Las Vegas to play an exhibition game against the United States on Wednesday.
