More than just a basketball team, the Golden State Warriors became a family.

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green’s relationship went way beyond the core.

They went through a lot together, from the ups and downs that come with being a dynasty, and even proving the doubters wrong when they thought they were done.

That’s why it was such a big and emotional blow to the fans and even to them when Thompson left the team.

Recently, Draymond Green revealed that even his son was about to cry when he found out.

In the latest edition of his podcast, the former Defensive Player of the Year told the story of how he told his son DJ that Thompson was about to join the Dallas Mavericks (via Chano Designs & Legion Hoops).

His son didn’t like the fact that he was going to join Luka Doncic and asked Draymond why the Warriors couldn’t simply get Luka and get it over with.

Clearly, he’s still a little too young to understand how the salary cap works.

Of course, the Warriors would take Luka in the blink of an eye, but that’s pretty much impossible at this point.

Instead, Mike Dunleavy Jr. will have to dig deep in the free-agent pool and the trade market to get the stars and the players they desperately need to get back into contention.

As for Thompson, he’ll have a huge chip on his shoulder to prove to the Warriors that they made a huge mistake by letting him go.
