Not everybody can live up to the hype of being the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.

That was the case with Markelle Fultz, whose career was severely hampered by injuries.

Fultz’s case was particularly odd, as he literally forgot how to shoot, with the mechanics of his shot being completely altered.

The Washington product eventually found his way to the Orlando Magic, having some big games on offense and becoming a very good defender.

With that in mind, he’s expected to fetch plenty of interest from guard-needy teams in free agency, according to a report by Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports.

The Orlando Magic currently have a bit of a logjam at both guard positions, and with them likely to pursue Klay Thompson as well, Fultz will have to seek a more significant role somewhere else.

Injuries will always be a concern with him, of course, which is why he may not be able to get top dollar in free agency.

Then again, he’s still young, and while he might never be the sharpshooter he was during his days in college, he’s learned how to become an efficient scorer from within close range, and he’s also an elite cutter.

The Magic have way too many options at both guard spots, some of which may have a higher upside than Fultz at this point in his career, so this makes sense.

Likewise, signing a one-year ‘prove it’ kind of deal could end up turning his career around if he has a good season.
