The NBA draft starts on Wednesday evening and basketball fans will be tuning in to see who will lead the league into the future.

This is a time for speculation, celebration, and also a look at the past.

On Wednesday’s “Undisputed,” Skip Bayless spoke about the history of the draft and stated that Michael Jordan is the best pick in NBA history.

Calling him the “greatest force of nature” in any sport, he said that it felt like he was the 30th overall pick, even though he was taken as the third selection.

Back in 1984, Jordan was chosen as the third pick in the first round by the Chicago Bulls.

Ahead of Jordan were Sam Bowie and Hakeem Olajuwon.

Although there was intense speculation and interest in Jordan, no one knew just how great he was going to be.

No one could foresee that the Bulls had just acquired a player who would quite literally change the NBA and popular sports forever.

In the years that followed, Jordan earned Rookie of the Year, 14 All-Star appearances, 10 scoring titles, 5 MVPs, 6 championships, and 6 Finals MVPs.

Of course, he also brought the popularity of the NBA to a new level, signed major endorsement deals, and became a household name.

Today Jordan is considered the greatest player of all time so it’s wild to think that he was chosen as the third pick.

His selection shows that teams never really know what they are going to get.

Draft picks are often worse or far better than expected and every once in a while a team will stumble upon a generational talent who changes things forever.
