The Cincinnati Bengals have been considered legitimate Super Bowl contenders over the last few years, but in 2023, they had to endure a lost season as quarterback Joe Burrow struggled due to multiple injuries.

While most of their core remains intact, they made a significant change by trading former Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans for a seventh-round draft pick.

Cincinnati looked to fill that resulting void by signing free agent running back Zack Moss, and he told Jim Rome he decided to sign with Cincinnati because of their immense talent and the fact that they use the shotgun formation a lot on offense.

Moss, a third-round draft pick in 2020, had a quiet start to his career with the Buffalo Bills, but he started to emerge last season with the Indianapolis Colts.

With star Jonathan Taylor forced to miss extensive time due to injury, Moss stepped in and ran for 794 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games and eight starts.

Moss is considerably smaller than Mixon (he’s 5-foot-9, while Mixon is 6-foot-1), and he isn’t particularly fast or quick, but he is powerful for a man his size and can make defenders miss when trying to tackle him.

The Bengals still have Joe Burrow, arguably one of the three best quarterbacks in the NFL, and two excellent wide receivers in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Higgins has been looking for a lucrative contract extension, and while he agreed to a one-year contract extension this offseason, his situation is one the team will have to resolve before too long.
