The Indiana Pacers took a big risk last season.
It’s never easy to commit to a soon-to-be free agent who’s given you absolutely no reason to believe he’s going to re-sign at the end of the season, but the Pacers needed to take a leap of faith.
Fortunately for them, it all paid off perfectly.
Pascal Siakam was a seamless fit on the court for Rick Carlisle’s team, and he also fits like a glove in the community.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see that he’s reportedly close to signing a max contract to come back to the Pacers, according to a report by Pacers beat writer Scott Agness (via Evan Sidery).
The Pacers are close to an agreement on a long-term contract extension for Pascal Siakam, per @ScottAgness.

Siakam had made it loud and clear that he wouldn’t sign a contract extension with any team that traded for him, and he would become a free agent regardless.
However, it became evident that he loved life in Indianapolis and the Pacers organization, so this was expected since the end of the season.
The new NBA rule establishes that teams can now negotiate with their own free agents as soon as the NBA Finals are done, meaning they could technically sign him to a deal right away.
Siakam was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Pacers since they traded for him, and he was quite solid in the playoffs as well.
Now, he’s expected to be one of the pillars of their process, not to mention a key veteran for one of the youngest teams in the Association.
