The general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers says he believes Cavan Biggio will benefit from a change of scenery and be “a good fit” with the NL West leaders.
“He’s just a really good, smart baseball player,” Brandon Gomes said in an interview with Blair and Barker on Friday. “If Cavan just continues to do what he’s done his career offensively, it’s a good fit for us.”
The Dodgers acquired Biggio in a trade with the Blue Jays earlier this week after he was designated for assignment to make room for Spencer Horwitz on the Toronto roster.

Biggio, 29, spent six seasons in the majors with the Blue Jays and can play around the infield and in the corner outfield spots.
This season, his offensive numbers dipped and he had trouble getting into the lineup. In 44 games with Toronto Biggio hit .200/.323/.291 with only six extra base hits.
Gomes said the Biggio addition was partially sparked by a delay in Max Muncy’s recovery from a strained oblique. Like Muncy, Biggio bats left and has experience playing third base.
Additionally, Gomes said Biggio could benefit from being on a new team after nearly a decade in the Blue Jays system. Biggio has one hit and one walk in two games at third base with the Dodgers so far.
“Sometimes just getting in a different environment and hearing some other thoughts can be helpful,” Gomes said. “Knowing that the floor of Cavan is being an excellent all-round baseball player that brings real defensive value, we thought it was a great fit.”
