For the first time since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement, the Pittsburgh Steelers feel they have a healthy situation at the quarterback position.

They brought in veteran quarterback Russell Wilson this offseason after he was released by the Denver Broncos, and they also traded for Justin Fields, who has struggled in his three NFL seasons but still has some people in his corner.

The last two seasons were very painful for Wilson, as he played very poorly in 2022 after the Broncos acquired him in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, and he wasn’t able to take Denver to the playoffs in either of his two seasons with them.

Joy Taylor said on FS1’s “Speak” that she is confident Russell will return to form this coming season and that he is in a better situation than he was in the last two years.

Taylor also said that since head coach Mike Tomlin runs the show for the Steelers, it will take pressure off of Wilson.

The Steelers are an excellent defensive team and have some young, promising talent on that side of the football, and thus Wilson may be in a situation that at least somewhat resembles his Seahawks teams from several years ago.

Back then, the Seahawks were an elite team thanks to their “Legion of Boom” defense and the exploits of star running back Marshawn Lynch, and it enabled Wilson to simply take what the defense was giving him instead of feeling like he had to carry the team.

Pittsburgh doesn’t have a ton of offensive weapons, but they do have a solid, young wide receiver in George Pickens and two capable running backs in Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.

Taylor believes that even if things don’t work out this season for Wilson in Pittsburgh, he should be able to get another opportunity elsewhere in 2025, especially since he did win a Super Bowl championship in Seattle.
