Gayle King is spreading the news about her BFF’s recent illness.
The CBS Mornings anchor revealed Oprah Winfrey had to cancel her appearance on the morning show June 11, during which she was going to discuss her latest pick for Oprah’s Book Club, David Wroblewski‘s Familiaris, after coming down with the stomach flu. And Gayle did not hold back on sharing the details.
“She had some kind of stomach thing, stomach flu,” the 69-year-old said, per TMZ. “Stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic.”
In fact, Gayle revealed that Oprah’s stomach bug was so bad, she “ended up in the hospital” and was severely dehydrated.
Noting that the OWN founder “had to get an IV,” she characterized the illness as “a very serious thing.”
Luckily, Oprah is on the mend, with a spokesperson for the 70-year-old telling E! News in a June 11 statement, “Ms. Winfrey is recovering following a stomach virus and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor. She is resting and feeling better every day.”
As for Gayle and Oprah, the duo have proven over the years, nothing—not even a TMI update on each other’s health—can get in the way of their incredibly close bond.
