After parting ways with head coach Darvin Ham after two seasons with the team, the Los Angeles Lakers are searching for a new head coach once again, with all signs recently pointing to the storied franchise bringing in former NBA player turned ESPN analyst JJ Redick.
Despite an endless stream of reports connecting Redick to the Lakers and everyone believing it would only be a matter of time before he gets the job, the narrative has changed drastically after a story broke on Thursday about UConn’s Dan Hurley being the team’s top target to be Ham’s successor in Los Angeles.
The news that Hurley was linked to the Lakers ever since they fired Ham came out of nowhere, as he hadn’t even been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Lakers throughout the entire process, and the team somehow kept their interest under wraps.
However, the news appears to be legitimate with the team in the process of trying to convince Hurley to leave UConn, where he’s won back-to-back National Championships, for the bright lights of Los Angeles.
Although it is definitely an intriguing job offer, Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports thinks he should wait for the New York Knicks job to open up instead, via The Volume.
“I’m Dan Hurley — wife is from New Jersey. Wait until the Knicks job opens. It will. It’s the NBA,” Cowherd said.

After another solid season during the 2023-24 campaign, the Knicks appear to be a team on the rise in the Eastern Conference with a potentially bright future ahead, as Jalen Brunson has become a legitimate superstar and a fan favorite in New York.
As a result of the team getting back to their winning ways, head coach Tom Thibodeau is in line for a contract extension, which he could get this summer, which means it could be quite a while before the job becomes vacant.
