Few teams in the league, if any, were as talented as the San Francisco 49ers on both sides of the football during the 2023 NFL season, as Kyle Shanahan’s squad excelled on defense and offense on their way to reaching the Super Bowl to take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Even though the 49ers were unable to get the best of Patrick Mahomes and company in overtime during the Super Bowl, San Francisco remains arguably the most talented team in the NFL and will likely keep that distinction heading into the 2024 NFL season, which will get underway on September 9 for San Francisco when the team plays host to Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets in Week 1.
In an effort to keep this team intact and happy moving forward, the 49ers made sure to put a smile on the face of superstar running back Christian McCaffrey during this NFL offseason by extending his contract by two years at $19 million annually.
Following the announcement of McCaffrey’s lucrative extension on Tuesday, the perennial Pro Bowler shared his reaction to the new deal with the media, via 95.7 The Game.
“I’m really fired up that I’m staying,” McCaffrey said.

Although the running back position has been devalued over the last few years with a lot of underpaid players coming out of the backfield in the NFL, the 49ers put McCaffrey’s mind at ease with the extension, which is a smart move on the team’s part.
With McCaffrey being arguably the best running back in the game right now, the veteran back is worth every penny to the franchise as long as he can stay healthy and productive in San Francisco.
