The 2024 NBA Finals are shaping up to be a good one as it’ll feature two of the league’s young superstars in Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum.
Both Doncic and Tatum will be vying for their first championship ring, while Kyrie Irving faces off against his old team where things didn’t end well.
While all eyes will be on Doncic, Tatum, and their respective teams, there are basketball games also being played globally.
For example, Taiwan’s T1 league recently had their version of the Finals where the Taiwan Beer Leopards swept the Taipei Taishin Mars to capture the championship.
The Beer Leopards were led by DeMarcus Cousins, who was named finals MVP and led the team to an undefeated run in the playoffs.
Dwight Howard famously played in Taiwan following the 2021-22 NBA season and he used Cousins’ championship to advocate for himself and other former NBA players playing overseas, via his personal Twitter account.
“Boogie just won a ring in Taiwan ! Stop playing with us we got Global Influence!” Howard tweeted.

Howard also used to play for the Beer Leopards before moving to Puerto Rico to briefly play professional basketball there.
Although Howard has been angling for an NBA comeback for years now, he is set to return to Taiwan instead.
Both Howard and Cousins had successful NBA careers that led to All-Star Game and playoff appearances, but are now dominating the game overseas in places like Taiwan.
It goes to show that older veterans can still see success internationally even after their NBA days are over.
