Last season, the Sacramento Kings were one of the surprise teams in the NBA, with head coach Mike Brown helping change the culture of the team, making them relevant once again and snapping the longest playoff drought in the league.

Along with getting the Kings back into the playoffs, Brown went on to win NBA Coach of the Year after an impressive first season with the team as the new leader on the sideline.

Unfortunately, the 2023-24 campaign wasn’t as successful for the Kings, with Sacramento unable to get back into the NBA playoffs, as the team couldn’t make it out of the Play-In Tournament.

Despite being unable to follow up last season’s success with a repeat performance, the Kings are still arguably headed in the right direction, with Brown being worthy of a new contract.

However, it doesn’t appear that the Kings brass and Brown are seeing eye-to-eye on a new deal, which has made things a bit complicated moving forward, with Amin Elhassan of ESPN believing it would be a major mistake if the team messes this up via SiriusXM NBA Radio.

“The last time [the Kings] had it this good and messed it up was Michael Malone,” Amin said.

With the Kings having an opportunity to be a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference once again, the team dropping the ball with a viable head coach could result in taking two steps back rather than a leap forward.

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out in Sacramento and if the Kings can avoid making what could be a huge mistake with their head coach.
