The New York Jets were built from their defense.
They have one of the best defensive units in the game, but the offense has yet to catch up.
That’s why they brought in Aaron Rodgers to take things to a whole new dimension.
Also, that wasn’t much of a surprise, considering the fact that HC Robert Saleh has made defense his bread and butter in this league.
However, it seems like the former defensive coordinator has taken a more hands-on approach to the team’s offense lately.
According to Rodgers, Saleh has brought some interesting things to the table on that side of the field:
“As a defensive coach, he’s been in that room a lot, but he’s been kind of sitting over to the left of me a good amount of the offseason so far. So we appreciate his influence. He’s brought some really good ideas to the table,” Rodgers said.
There were some worrisome reports coming out of the Jets a couple of weeks ago.
Apparently, there were so many in-house doubts about Nathaniel Hackett that the team tried to hire someone above him to keep him in check.
They also hope that Rodgers’ vision, football IQ, and ability to make adjustments at the line of scrimmage will be enough to right Hackett’s wrongs.
Needless to say, that’s far from ideal for any team, let alone an aspiring Super Bowl contender.
Then again, Rodgers has the utmost confidence in his offensive coordinator and close friend, and that could also take a team a long way.
Whatever the case, we already know what this defense is capable of.
So, even if the offense isn’t historically proficient, just playing some efficient football and someone who can keep the chains in motion should be enough for this team to get over the hump and back to the playoffs.
