Many NFL players once also played basketball when they were younger, and many of them still think they could play basketball at a relatively high level.

Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs was once a gifted basketball player in high school, but around the time he topped out at 6-foot-2, he decided to make football his main thing, and it has turned out to be the right choice.

He was asked by Chris Broussard on FS1’s “First Things First” what player he would compare his basketball skills to, and he said while his favorite player growing up was Carmelo Anthony, his game is most similar to that of Luka Doncic.

Doncic is an interesting choice, as Mahomes seems to be much more physically gifted than Doncic.

Doncic makes a living with his skills and his will, and those abilities have gotten his Dallas Mavericks to the NBA’s Western Conference Finals somewhat unexpectedly.

Not too long ago, Anthony was known for his outstanding one-on-one scoring skills, and he seemingly had 1,001 ways to score.

Mahomes is coming off winning his third Super Bowl championship and second in a row, and now the quarterback has a golden opportunity to lead the Chiefs to an unprecedented third-straight Super Bowl win this coming season.

In order to do so, the Chiefs will have to not only fend off an improved AFC but also resolve some internal issues.

Rashee Rice, their best wide receiver of a young and unproven group last season, is facing legal charges having to do with a car crash he was recently involved in.

Even if Rice beats those charges, Kansas City will have to find their next true alpha wideout, and they’re hoping speedster wideout Xavier Worthy, who they took in the first round of last month’s draft, will become just that.
