The Miami Dolphins are one of the better teams in the league right now.

That is thanks in part to the play of Pro Bowl quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The former national champion, realizing what he is worth, is looking for a new contract.

According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, Tagovailoa is skipping the majority of the team’s voluntary offseason work to seek a long-term extension with the franchise.

If fans are going off of statistics, Tagovailoa is worth a new contract for sure.

In separate seasons, he has led the league in passer rating and passing yards.

He has also led the Dolphins to back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since the turn of the century.

There is no doubt that he has earned a new contract from a regular season and statistical point of view.

However, when the playoffs start or when the weather changes, his play has dipped.

The team has lost back-to-back Wild Card games in cold-weather cities.

Tagovailoa has played in just one of those playoff games, which came last year against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Miami lost, 26-7, as he went 20-39 for 199 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

If Miami thinks they can win with him, which they have already, they need to give him a new deal.

But, if he gets a new deal, that won’t at all mean that the press is off.

The ultimate opportunity will come in the postseason because the Dolphins’ roster is too stacked on both sides to not be there.

Tua will have to prove himself then and there.
