Chris Paul may be in steep decline these days, but he has had a distinguished NBA career dating back to his rookie season in 2005-06.
He will certainly be a first-ballot Hall of Famer after he decides to call it quits, and many consider him one of the very best pure point guards in NBA history.
This is the first time since 2010 that Paul’s team isn’t in the playoffs, but he will be participating in them in a different way, as he has been named a guest analyst for ESPN’s “NBA Countdown” during the upcoming Eastern Conference Finals, per ESPN PR.

Paul was traded to the Warriors last summer after three disappointing seasons with the Phoenix Suns, and this season was even more of a disappointment, as the Warriors were inconsistent all season long and lost in the play-in tournament.
In Phoenix, he finally got to the NBA Finals in 2021, only to see his team blow a 2-0 series lead and lose the world championship to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
The following year, the Suns took 2-0 and 3-2 leads in the second round over the Dallas Mavericks, but they were routed at home in a 123-90 Game 7 stunner.
Paul played poorly in that series, and it seemed to be the invisible line of demarcation as far as his production and career viability.
Even if his game has declined, his feel for the game hasn’t, and he should be able to deliver some keen insight into the game and the East Finals as a member of ESPN’s crew in a couple of weeks.
