On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers made another move to address their offense, with the team unexpectedly not picking up the fifth-year option on star running back Najee Harris, even though he’s been as consistent as they come at his position in the NFL.
Harris has played in 17 games in all three of his seasons with the Steelers, cracking the 1,000-yard rushing mark and scoring at least eight or more total touchdowns per season.
Even though Harris has put up solid numbers and has been able to stay healthy during his time with the team, fellow Steelers running back Jaylen Warren might be the reason the team held off on committing to him.
ESPN’s Mina Kimes talked about the Steelers’ surprising decision on Harris’ future and believes Warren is the better running back on the roster in Pittsburgh, if not one of the best backs in the entire NFL, via NFL on ESPN.
“Jaylen Warren is the best back on their roster,” Kimes said. “He’s not just more explosive than Harris, he’s one of the best backs in the NFL.”

Only time will tell what the future holds for Warren and Harris in Pittsburgh, as it seems the team is keeping its options open moving forward without any long-term commitments.
The pressure will be on for the Steelers during the 2024 campaign as it is safe to assume that longtime head coach Mike Tomlin will be coaching for his job as he tries to prove he’s still among the best coaches in the league.
