With the consensus being that USC superstar Caleb Williams will be the first quarterback and player taken in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday, the attention turns to the No. 2 overall pick by the Washington Commanders, with two quarterbacks in serious consideration to be taken.

All signs point to reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye getting the call from the Commanders later today, and whoever isn’t taken will be selected by the New England Patriots at No. 3 overall.

It seems increasingly likely that Daniels will be the quarterback taken by the Commanders, as Washington seems to favor him over Maye, but nothing is set in stone compared to Williams going No. 1 to the Chicago Bears.

Former NFL MVP Cam Newton says that Daniels reminds him of Russell Wilson of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he wonders whether he’ll land in the right situation where he can excel on the football field, via “4thand1show” on Twitter.

“His game reminds me of Russell Wilson,” Newton said. “But does he go to the right situation to showcase his skill set?”

Fortunately for Daniels, he’ll be in a situation where he can compete for the starting job right out of the gate, whether it be with the Commanders or the Patriots, with both teams bringing in journeyman veterans as a placeholder for the time being.

However, it remains to be seen whether Daniels’ skill set will be impactful on the NFL level, as there’s no guarantee he’ll be a success as a professional.
