One of the most disappointing teams in the NFL last season was, without a doubt, the Carolina Panthers, who traded for the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and brought in a potential franchise quarterback, Bryce Young.

The Panthers were aggressive in their pursuit of a young quarterback who could become a franchise quarterback and thought they had a better team than what the results of the 2023 campaign showed, which resulted in the team firing head coach Frank Reich.

In the aftermath of Reich losing his job with the Panthers, the team decided to make Dave Canales their new head coach moving forward, who will be heading into an important 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday.

Apparently, Canales made a promise to wide receiver Xavier Legette out of the University of South Carolina that they’d draft him with the No. 33 overall pick in the draft if he’s still available.

Canales addressed that draft promise and claimed he also said it to 50 other draft prospects, via The Coachspeak Index.

“I definitely said that to him and about 50 other guys,” Canales said.

With the Panthers having few offensive weapons at Young’s disposal, the Panthers bringing in a wide receiver in the upcoming draft makes a lot of sense, especially in a draft class as deep as this one at the wide receiver position.

Only time will tell if Legette lands in Carolina or somewhere else in the draft and if this Panthers team can turn the corner during the 2024 NFL season, as they’ll need to show some improvement.
