J.J. McCarthy’s draft stock has soared over recent weeks and there is now a real possibility he could be selected in the top-five even if he is the fourth quarterback off the board.
He has been linked to the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants a lot, but there is another team that could still be in play for him that he would reportedly be honored to play for.
McCarthy spoke with ESPN’s Adam Schefter and discussed what it would mean to him to play for the New England Patriots, saying he has “so much honor and respect to be able to be in that position,” and called Robert Kraft “the coolest, smoothest guy I’ve met in a long time.”
J.J. McCarthy spoke to @AdamSchefter about what it would mean to him to play for the #Patriots:
“So much honor and respect to be able to be in that position… growing up and seeing all the success. I met with Mr. Kraft… the coolest, smoothest guy I’ve met in a long time. Just… pic.twitter.com/GWJDoeYGDy

McCarthy added: “Coach Mayo’s been a part of that success over the years and what he’s building is a feeling that I got when I first stepped onto Michigan. A sense of urgency to rebuild the culture, rebuild this team to where they want to get to and where they were…you can tell that they’re on the path to success and they’re doing it the right way.”
McCarthy hasn’t been linked to the Patriots much, as they have the No. 3 pick and most have assumed the pick there would be either Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye, but McCarthy’s stock has soared so high that going No. 3 overall could be in play.
It’s interesting to hear McCarthy has thought this much about going third, though he may just be being professional.
Only two more days until all this smoke results in some fire.
