The New York Knicks just got a huge win.
Trailing by five with less than a minute left, Tom Thibodeau’s team was able to rally back and take a 2-0 series lead over the Philadelphia 76ers.
With that in mind, sports analyst Craig Carton claimed that it was the biggest moment in Madison Square Garden since Larry Johnson’s epic four-point play in the 1999 Eastern Conference Finals.
Talking on “The Carton Show,” he argued that if you consider the manner in which they won the game, what it meant, and how the crowd was so involved in the game when it happened, this was definitely the most significant playoff moment at MSG since Game 3 of the 1999 ECF.
“That is the most significant win for the Knicks at Madison Square Garden since LJ’s 4-point play.” 🤯

He’s got a bit of a point there, as there haven’t been that many postseason games at MSG since then.
Of course, we’re talking about the Eastern Conference Finals, not Game 2 of the first round, so that also speaks volumes about the Knicks’ ever-lasting struggles.
Even so, for the first time since 1999, it seems like this team has a legitimate chance to make it to the NBA Finals, or at least reach that stage again.
Not even in the Carmelo Anthony days did the Knicks have this kind of aura, mostly because there were also other powerhouses in the Eastern Conference.
This time, however, the table seems set for a trip to the Conference Finals, and only the Boston Celtics could stand in their way to the biggest stage if they continue to play this way.
