The Minnesota Timberwolves just completed one of their best regular-season runs in years, earning a 56-26 record and securing the third spot in the Western Conference standings.

Several stars on the roster did incredible things this year, including Anthony Edwards.

But Kendrick Perkins believes the team’s big man, Rudy Gobert, is 2023-24’s Defensive Player of the Year.

On Twitter, Perkins posted: “My DPOY vote went to Rudy Gobert!!! Carry the hell on…”

Based on the latest inside reporting, it sounds like Perkins voted as many others have and will.

Gobert is the frontrunner to win Defensive Player of the Year, which would mark the fourth time he won the prize.

He definitely deserves to be part of the conversation, as he posted 14 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.

Gobert has been shutting down opponents all season long, including some of the most talented power forwards and centers in the league.

The French star has gained attention from members of the press like Perkins, who vote on these end-of-season awards.

Recent straw polls suggest that Gobert’s closet competition is rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama, but the Spurs star won’t overcome Gobert’s support.

If the Timberwolves star wins Defensive Player of the Year, it’ll be his biggest accomplishment of the season, but it might not be the last one that he achieves.

The Timberwolves might be able to beat the competition in the West and earn their way to the Finals.

If that happens, it means they will overcome very tough opponents like the Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and others.

Gobert has just concluded one of the best seasons of his career and his team has surged toward the top of the standings.

Now he is going to try to win one of the most coveted awards.
