Last year, one of the best NBA playoff series was the upstart Sacramento Kings’ first-round matchup with the division-rival Golden State Warriors.

Although the Warriors were expected to beat their rivals in order to keep their repeat hopes alive, the Kings proved throughout the regular season that they were a legitimate force to be reckoned with.

De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis showed they were a dynamic duo on the rise and capable of playing against and beating any team in the league, but they had a tough challenge against the Warriors, who weren’t ready to end their title defense.

Ultimately, Golden State was able to advance to the second round to take on the Los Angeles Lakers after superstar guard Stephen Curry’s incredible Game 7 performance, during which Curry dropped 50 points on the Kings.

Now, the stakes are different a year later, with both teams in the bottom half of the Play-In Tournament in the West and hanging onto hope to make it to the first round, with Golden State seemingly ready to head to Sacramento on Tuesday, via Twitter.

Unfortunately for both teams, Golden State and Sacramento are not playing at the same level they were last year, as they dropped off a bit and have struggled at times during the 2023-24 campaign.

However, both teams are talented and could make a run in the postseason if they can at least get to the first round.

Although the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets are waiting for their opponent and will likely advance, anything can happen in the playoffs, meaning the Kings and Warriors can still make some noise in the West.
