Ever since Shannon Sharpe left FOX Sports’ Undisputed for ESPN’s First Take to join forces with Stephen A. Smith, the ratings of Skip Bayless’ show have reportedly gone downhill, which has prompted many changes in co-hosts and tactics for the show.

It seems as though one of those tactics is challenging former NFL MVP quarterback Cam Newton to a three-point shooting contest, which the former Carolina Panthers superstar seems to be seeing right through as he believes it is a ploy to get ratings.

This week, Newton decided to respond to the desperate challenge request from Bayless and admitted that the Undisputed host is only looking for a way to boost his ratings via 4th and 1 Show.

“Skip doesn’t actually want to play me…he just wants the ratings for his show,” Newton said.

With First Take blowing Undisputed out of the water since the arrival of Sharpe, Bayless does appear to be as desperate as ever, as sports fans don’t want to tune into his show anymore with the longtime host rubbing people the wrong way.

As time goes on and the ratings presumably get worse and worse for Bayless, it’ll be interesting to see what he does in order to get those ratings back, and the lengths he’ll go to do that because it is safe to say a shootout with Newton isn’t going to cut it.

Only time will tell what happens in the ongoing battle between Undisputed and First Take, but right now, it may only be a matter of time before FOX Sports pulls the plug on Bayless’ show.
