Record: 40-0
Postseason national tournament record: 1-1
Plano East went undefeated during the regular season and then proved its dominance by sweeping the postseason, outscoring opponents in the playoffs by an average of 23.4 points per game. According to the Plano Star Courier, the Panthers became the third Dallas-area boys team to go undefeated and the first to do so in the 6A conference.
Led by Jordan Mizell and DJ Hall, who were named co-MVPs — Mizell’s second season in a row earning the distinction from the outlet — the Panthers were the nightmare of every other would-be contender, as they won eight games against opponents who had 30-plus wins.
Plano East suffered an overtime loss in the quarterfinals of The Throne, a national tournament after the conclusion of the season, but that’s the only blemish. It was a truly dominant campaign for the Texas unit, which had 10 wins in 2020-21, 24 in 2021-22, 31 last year and, fittingly, a round 40 this season.
