Many feel the Dallas Cowboys have had a terrible offseason, especially since they lost starting running back Tony Pollard, star offensive tackle Tyron Smith, and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, among others.

But the main issue for them is their contract negotiations with quarterback Dak Prescott, which have been unproductive so far.

David Helman said on FS1’s “Speak” that Prescott has “all of the leverage” in these contract talks, especially since he has no-tag and no-trade clauses in his current deal.

Some are speculating that Prescott’s days with the Cowboys could be numbered and that the team could even look to draft a quarterback later this month.

Prescott has been one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks for some time now, and for a moment this past season, he was even a frontrunner for the league MVP award.

He led everyone in completed passes and touchdown passes in 2023 while throwing for 4,516 yards and completing a career-high 69.5 percent of his pass attempts.

But the elephant in the room for Prescott has always been his history of underperforming in big games, especially come playoff time.

In the first round of last season’s playoffs versus the Green Bay Packers, he threw two early interceptions, leading to Dallas falling behind, 27-0, and while he did throw three touchdown passes, two of them came in garbage time of their 48-32 loss.

There are those who feel the team may be best off letting Prescott play out the 2024 campaign without an extension in place, given his postseason failures, and that it may be better off moving on from him if he doesn’t start producing when it matters most.
