“A band of hard-right agitators, backed by former President Donald Trump, is threatening to block the renewal of a powerful surveillance program that is set to expire next week, throwing the GOP-led House into chaos once again,” NBC News reports.
“At least three conservatives said they would break with Republican leadership and vote down a ‘rule’ later Wednesday; it’s yet another example of a minority of Republicans using the otherwise procedural vote to prevent the House from debating their own party’s legislation. Republicans have taken down their own rule six times this Congress.”
Punchbowl News: “This is another failure of a week for Mike Johnson and the House Republican leadership. They delayed transmitting articles to impeach DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. They may fail to advance FISA. And Johnson still hasn’t released a Ukraine aid bill. FISA slipping to next week makes it even less likely that Ukraine aid will be considered before the chamber’s weeklong April recess.”
