US entrées and appetisers maker Custom Made Meals has snapped up a manufacturing facility from Hearthside Food Solutions.

Denver-headquartered Custom Made Meals has bought a site in Florida that supplies retailers and foodservice customers in the east of the country.

The factory is the company’s second, with its first at its Denver base. Financial terms were not disclosed.

In a statement, Custom Made Meals said the acquisition would help it meet the demand from “existing and prospective customers” for more capacity.

“The investment bolsters Custom Made Meals’ product portfolio with key capabilities in wraps, sandwiches, value-added seafood, and ready-to-heat categories,” the company said.

Contract manufacturing group Hearthside attained the Jacksonville facility when it acquired Greencore’s US business in 2018 for $1.07bn.

Doug Burris, the CEO of Custom Made Meals, said the company will take on the staff of the facility.

“The acquisition includes a dedicated team that has extensive experience in food manufacturing and who carry an unwavering commitment to quality and on-time and in-full performance,” Burris said.

“We are excited to work together to continue CMM’s history as a collaborative retailer partner, providing on-trend solutions that drive repeat purchases and foot traffic. We are confident that the combined capabilities of our network will allow us to better serve grocery chains and food service distributors nationwide.”

The deal is the first acquisition made by Custom Made Meals since it was bought by private-equity firm Stellex Capital Management in 2021.

Trey Lee, managing director at Stellex, added, “Customers are looking to CMM as a value-added partner to assist in the expansion of their value-added fresh offerings.

“Given the proliferation of these emerging categories, we are happy to provide investment support to get ahead of retailers’ strategic requirements.”
