Edmonton Oilers winger Evander Kane has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowed under the current CBA, for slashing the Calgary FlamesDryden Hunt, the NHL announced on Sunday.

The incident occurred early in the second period of the Oilers’ 4-2 win over the Flames on Saturday. Kane swung his stick at the hands of Hunt behind the net and was assessed a minor penalty for slashing.

Kane’s miscue led to a power-play goal for Calgary and it was evident some of his teammates were unhappy. Toward the end of the second period, Oilers veteran Corey Perry was seen having an animated conversation with Kane on the bench after some sloppy play on the prior shift.

Kane has put up 23 goals and 18 assists through 74 games this season. Edmonton has already clinched a playoff spot with a win against Colorado on Friday and is currently second in the Pacific division with a 47-24-5 record.

The Oilers return to action Wednesday when they visit the Vegas Golden Knights.
