The Chicago White Sox announced Saturday that outfielder Luis Robert Jr. will be going on the 10-day injured list with a right hip flexor strain. The centre fielder left in the ninth inning of Friday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
Robert came up limping while rounding first base after hitting a double and was pinch ran for by Braden Shewmake.
The team announced that infielder Lenyn Sosa has been recalled to take Robert’s place on the roster.
Robert, 26, had started the 2024 season 6-for-28 with two home runs and one stolen base.
He has had trouble staying healthy throughout his career, having only played more than 100 games once in his first four seasons. That came in 2023 when he posted a .857 OPS with 38 home runs, 80 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 145 games.
Sosa, 24, played 52 games with the White Sox in 2023, slashing .201/.224/.348. He had gone 8-for-24 with two doubles and a home run in six triple-A games this season.
Chicago is 1-6 to start the season, with their lone win coming on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves.
