The Philadelphia 76ers have been fined $100,000 for violating the NBA’s injury reporting rules with Joel Embiid on Tuesday, the league announced Friday.
According to the league, the 76ers “failed to accurately disclose the game availability status” of Embiid before Tuesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Embiid was listed as “Out” on the initial injury report, then played in the game.
The league also announced that the fine takes into account the 76ers’ history with injury reporting rules. Philadelphia was also fined $75,000 in February for failing to include Embiid on their injury report.
In Embiid’s return from a torn left meniscus on Tuesday, his first game in two months, the NBA’s reigning MVP scored 24 points, had seven assists, six rebounds and made the decisive four free throws that led the 76ers to a 109-105 win over the Thunder.
Without Embiid, the Sixers plummeted in the Eastern Conference and now sit eighth. A team that was playing for a top-four spot in the East before Embiid’s injury, the Sixers are 14-27 overall without him this season and 11-18 since he was injured in a Jan. 30 loss at Golden State.
