Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford will step down from his role at the end of the season, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday.
Wojnarowski also reports that Clifford is hoping to remain with the team, and is currently working to finalize a front-office role with the Hornets.
According to Wojnarowski, Sacramento Kings assistant coach and head coach of the Canadian men’s national team Jordi Fernandez will be among the top candidates to replace Clifford.
Clifford has coached the Hornets for the past two seasons. This year, the Hornets are 18-57 and sit 13th in the Eastern Conference.
Charlotte has dealt with its fair share of injury issues this season, as star point guard LaMelo Ball played in just 22 games before being shut down for the season with an ankle injury.
