The future of the Chicago Bears seems to be clear now that they’ve traded away Justin Fields.

The Bears sent Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick that can turn into a fourth-round pick if Fields plays a certain amount of snaps.

It’s an unceremonious end for Fields in Chicago, though the conclusion is hardly surprising given that the franchise owns the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

By trading away Fields, the Bears have signaled to the rest of the league that they’ll be taking one of the highly-touted quarterback prospects in the draft.

USC’s Caleb Williams has been the consensus No. 1 overall pick for the entire year and it seems that Chicago’s fans are already expecting the world out of him, via Bears beat writer Dan Wiederer.

“There is a faction of Bears fans on X who are now enthusiastically vowing to set the grandest/most extreme rookie year expectations for Caleb Williams with a ‘He better … or else’ tone,” Wiederer tweeted.

Barring an unforeseen trade down, the Bears will take Williams first overall and for good reason as he’s the best quarterback prospect the NFL has seen in years.

Williams is a natural passer who can also make plays with his legs and create plays out of structure.

However, he’ll still need time to adjust to the professional game and placing unrealistic expectations on him right away is a sure-fire way to be disappointed.

Williams has the talent and poise to handle the pressure, but Bears fans would be better off allowing him to develop in peace.
