Aberdeen-based baked goods manufacturer Murdoch Allan has finalised a deal to purchase fellow Scottish baking group Teviotdale Bakery.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Murdoch Allan will acquire all of the bakery’s assets, the company told Just Food.

The deal, in turn, allows the company to expand its presence outside of Aberdeenshire for the first time, it said.

The businesses have a combined annual turnover of £9m ($11.4m).

Teviotdale Bakery, which manufactures a range of baked morning rolls, including the traditional Dundee roll, has been owned and run by Graham Cuthbert and his family since 1978.

Cuthbert will retain no role in the future of the business, Murdoch Allan said.

The acquisition will have no impact on the eight employees working for Teviotdale Bakery, who will join the 150-strong workforce at Murdoch Allan.

Paul Allan, managing director of Murdoch Allan, added the group “will also be creating new job opportunities as part of our expansion plans”.

While Teviotdale formerly supplied independent retailers in Dundee, it will be renamed Murdoch Allan and help supply the group’s six bakery outlets across Aberdeenshire, in Frasberburg, Turriff, Hatton, Peterhead, Mintlaw, and Thains.

Teviotdale’s breakfast rolls will continue to be produced at the site in Dundee, alongside a range of new products, the new owner said.

The bakery’s goods will also supply supermarkets and independent shops Murdoch supplies, including Asda, Aldi, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.

The morning rolls producer also supplies foodservice customers, including Sodexo, Inspire and BaxterStorey.

Founded in 1991, Murdoch Allan bakes a range of pastry goods such as meat and veggie pies, as well as breakfast rolls known as butteries, which are traditional to the Aberdeen region.
