Today, New York Magazine and Stephanie Wu, editor-in-chief of Eater, were honored by Adweek on its annual “Media Hot List,” which recognizes the people and news organizations that brought the most captivating coverage to readers. New York Magazine was named “Hottest Magazine of the Year,” and Stephanie Wu was named “Media Editor of the Year,” capping off a year of buzzy coverage and expansion into new formats for both Eater and New York.

Adweek noted Wu’s efforts to shape Eater into a “title [that] goes beyond the rinse and repeat to reach new audiences,” citing writing that has brought cultural moments like “chaos cooking” into the zeitgeist via FX’s The Bear, the expansion of its footprint across platforms like TikTok where it reaches millions with its irreverent editorial, and brand extensions like cookbooks and city guides, as well as a cookware line with Heritage Steel. The outlet also expanded its newsletter offerings with Pre Shift, geared toward industry professionals and launched in partnership with sibling site Punch. The newsletter has proven to be popular with its audience, boasting a 60% open rate.

“Stephanie’s thoughtful and innovative leadership has taken Eater to new heights, and cemented the brand as one that delivers local authority on a national scale,” said Pam Wasserstein, president of Vox Media. “Meanwhile, New York continues to deliver vibrant, consequential journalism that sparks conversations, and leverages its outstanding editorial to build a thriving business. I am thrilled to see their efforts being honored, and congratulate the Eater and New York teams.”

This is New York’s second consecutive time being named “Hottest Magazine of the Year” by Adweek. This year, the magazine’s outstanding coverage was highlighted for its ability to “ignite cultural conversations,” with viral issues devoted to post-pandemic etiquette, the history of ‘It’ girls, and the real cost of living in New York.” Adweek also cited the magazine’s thriving newsletter portfolio and recent investment in The Cut. David Haskell, New York editor-in-chief was named “Publishing Editor of the Year” in 2021, and the magazine was first honored as “Hottest Magazine of the Year” under his leadership in 2019 and again in 2022.

Eater and New York are both nominated for multiple 2024 National Magazine Awards, including General Excellence in their respective categories.
