There’s a good chance newly acquired winger Jake Guentzel will make his Carolina Hurricanes debut on Tuesday night against the New York Rangers.
Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said “there’s a real good possibility” Guentzel returns from injury to face the Rangers after morning skate.
“He’ll take warmup and we’ll see where it goes, but all indications are I think he will,” Brind’Amour said, per Hurricanes reporter Walt Ruff.
Acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins prior to last week’s trade deadline, Guentzel has been out since suffering an upper-body injuryin a loss to Florida on Feb. 14.
Guentzel has 22 goals in 50 games this season for Pittsburgh.
The 29-year-old Guentzel gives the Hurricanes a proven goal scorer who thrives in the postseason spotlight. Guentzel has reached the 40-goal plateau twice in eight seasons and has 58 points (24 goals, 34 assists) in 58 playoff games. His 13 goals during the 2017 playoffs led the league and helped the Penguins become the first team in nearly 20 years to win back-to-back Stanley Cups.
