After parting ways with superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers last offseason by trading him to the New York Jets, the consensus seemed to be that the Green Bay Packers might be a few years away from getting back into playoff contention, with no telling whether Jordan Love was the right man for the job under center.

Even though the Packers got off to a slow start to the 2023 campaign, Green Bay was able to turn things around thanks to the improved play of Love and eventually clinched a spot in the NFL playoffs, setting up a first-round matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

That playoff game was thought to be nothing but a formality for the Cowboys, as Dallas was expected to destroy the upstart Packers squad led by the young quarterback, but that didn’t happen as they crushed the Cowboys on their home field of AT&T Stadium.

Heading into the NFL offseason, few teams have more of an upside than the Packers, with many believing this team could be a title contender sooner rather than later, and Green Bay took another step toward that by arming themselves with an extra $10.5 million in cap space with the release of linebacker De’Vondre Campbell, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

With this added $10.5 million to the salary cap, the Packers might be able to be a bit more aggressive during free agency to figure out ways to improve the roster for the 2024 campaign.

It’ll be interesting to see what moves the Packers make and whether they can close that gap in the NFC next season.
