After parting ways with head coach Arthur Smith immediately after the 2023 NFL season finished for the Atlanta Falcons, the team was determined to make some drastic changes, with the quarterback position being the team’s top priority heading into the offseason.
Once the team decided to bring in Raheem Morris to be Smith’s successor in Atlanta, the speculation began about the team’s intentions in NFL free agency, with a few intriguing options at quarterback.
Although Justin Fields and Russell Wilson were options floated out there as possible candidates to be targeted by the Falcons, the team went with the veteran quarterback who had been linked to the team all along, as they agreed to terms with Kirk Cousins on Monday.
With Cousins in the fold for the next four years in Atlanta, Nick Wright of FOX Sports believes that the Falcons must now be in the playoff picture in the NFC, via “First Things First.”
“You now expect the Falcons to be in the playoff picture,” Wright said.

Despite coming off an Achilles injury that ended his 2023 season and stint with the Minnesota Vikings, the Falcons seem to have a lot of faith in Cousins’ ability to bounce back from the injury and lead the team to success moving forward.
The addition of Cousins under center in Atlanta should make the Falcons a perennial playoff team, as he can still play the game at a high level and will have some promising young players at his disposal in Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts.
