It’s that time of the NFL offseason where fans are constantly refreshing their screens in anticipation of free agency news.
Unfortunately, at this part of the cycle, those notifications are usually cap casualties, and many of them tend to be big names.
The Buffalo Bills made headlines today in this department, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter has announced the release of star safety Jordan Poyer.

Buffalo has the worst cap situation in the league and is going to have to get creative to get under the cap, so this might not be the Bills’ only cap casualty.
Cutting Poyer saves them $5.7 million against the cap.
Poyer turns 33 in April and is now looking for a new home for his 12th season.
The former Pro Bowler and All-Pro selection finishes up an impressive 7-year run with the Bills where he collected 22 of his 24 career interceptions and 11 of his 12 career sacks while piling up over 100 tackles in four of his seven seasons.
Poyer re-signed with the Bills last offseason on a 2-year deal and now immediately becomes one of the biggest names available in the safety market.
Buffalo surrendered the 7th-fewest passing yards in the NFL last year and the 4th-fewest points at only 18.3 per game.
It will be a tough task rebuilding that defense and replicating the success it had in 2023 after losing both Poyer and fellow longtime starting safety Micah Hyde.
Leonard Floyd, DaQuan Jones, A.J. Epenesa, and Shaq Lawson are also on their way to free agency from this defense.
