The Boston Red Sox are hoping to have a bounce-back season in 2024.

Each of the last two years the Red Sox finished last in the AL East with a 78-84 record.

Yet, the Red Sox made a few moves this offseason in hopes of returning to relevancy.

One player the Red Sox picked up was starting pitcher Lucas Giolito.

He was expected to make an impact in their starting rotation.

But, that has been derailed after suffering a serious elbow injury in spring training.

Giolito is expected to miss the beginning of the season and maybe much more.

Boston should now be interested in finding another starting pitcher.

According to Bob Nightengale, losing Giolito could open the Red Sox up to signing Jordan Montgomery or Blake Snell.

Both Montgomery and Snell are impact starters.

Each has been sitting in free agency for far too long.

They could slot into the top of the Red Sox rotation and help them compete in the AL East.

In the past, Boston has been aggressive in free agency and in signing top free agents.

They have the money to spend and both players would significantly contribute.

Looking at the AL East from the outside, it will be the toughest division in baseball.

All five teams have a shot to make the playoffs.

But the Red Sox are still the team projected to finish last.

Adding another frontline starting pitcher could do wonders as they hope to return to the postseason for the first time since 2021.
