Despite the Los Angeles Lakers’ struggles during the 2023-24 NBA season, LeBron James has helped keep them relevant.

James has only missed a handful of games this season and the Lakers have needed him available because their offense craters when he’s off the floor.

James delivered two crucial wins to Los Angeles this past week with thrilling performances against the L.A. Clippers and Washington Wizards.

The Lakers star followed those games up by making history against the Denver Nuggets when he became the first player to ever score 40,000 points in the regular season.

James has been breaking scoring records seemingly every night, but this new milestone is more special than the others.

Interestingly enough, James somehow scored his latest 10,000 points in the same number of games it took him to score his first 10,000 points, via Ben Golliver of The Washington Post.

“Lakers’ LeBron James is the first NBA player to score 40,000 points. James scored his first 10,000 points in the exact same number of games as it took him to go from 30,000 to 40,000 – 10K in 368 games – 10K to 20K in 358 games – 20K to 30K in 381 games – 30K to 40K in 368 games,” Golliver wrote.

It’s quite the statistical anomaly, but it speaks to how consistent and productive James has been throughout the years.

At 39 years old, James has defied Father Time because he doesn’t look close to slowing down any time soon.

James could theoretically play well late into his 40s, though it remains to be seen if he’d even want to play that long.

For now, James and the Lakers are focused on the season at hand and hopefully making some noise in the playoffs.
