Soon after polls closed Tuesday in Michigan, the “uncommitted” campaign looked like it would even surpass 100,000 Democratic votes, perhaps even 150,000 votes—a major sign of trouble for Biden in a state that was decided by less than 11,000 votes in 2016, the Daily Beast reports.
New York Times: “Michigan — thanks to its large Arab American population, college campuses and early primary date — became the electoral focal point of wider Democratic unease with Mr. Biden’s support for Israel’s offensive in Gaza, which local health authorities say has killed over 29,000 Palestinians. Some of his allies feared that if the movement registered serious disapproval against him, it could have lasting effects into the general election, especially if Mr. Biden held firm to his position on the conflict.”
Aaron Blake: “There is no question it got people’s attention on Tuesday. Whether it really changed the 2024 paradigm is another matter.”
“The 15 percent of the vote the option was getting several hours after the polls closed is substantial. But context is important.”
