The Pittsburgh Steelers went in a different direction to improve their offense.
Arthur Smith is the new guy in charge of putting up points on the scoreboard, but the offensive coordinator was hardly their only issue on offense.
They don’t have a lot of talent at the quarterback position, and while it’s become painfully obvious to most fans and analysts that they need to pursue an upgrade there, they’re not so sure.
As a matter of fact, a report by Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (via ProFootballTalk) now states that they’re not even sure about whether Mason Rudolph or Kenny Pickett should be the starter next season:
“As explained by Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, ‘there appears to be some internal division that maybe Mason Rudolph should be the starter,’ given his performance at the end of the season,” read the report.
The Steelers have apparent “internal division” as to whether Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph should be the starting QB for 2024. Either way, they reportedly aren’t interested in acquiring a veteran starter at the position. https://t.co/yQ7jsMBGwD

The report also states that the Steelers aren’t sold on pursuing a veteran quarterback to become a starter, even though team owner Art Rooney II stated it was a real possibility.
Rudolph is about to become a free agent, but his chances of being a starter anywhere but Pittsburgh are slim.
Mike Tomlin has always been a fan of him, and it became even more evident when he decided to stick with him in the playoffs despite having Kenny Pickett back to full strength.
Pickett has been less than impressive in his two seasons in Pittsburgh, and there are big doubts about his ability to become a star in this league.
Now, it seems like those rumors about Russell Wilson or Justin Fields wearing the Black & Gold next season might not come to fruition, so it’s hard to envision this team being more competitive next year.
