Taylor Swift became the most high-profile member of Chiefs Kingdom when she struck a romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Swift and Kelce’s relationship became a hot topic around the NFL and arguably became a distraction during the 2023 NFL season.
The NFL broadcasts made sure to get shots of Swift at the games, much to the delight of her fans and the ire of football enthusiasts.
The discourse online strayed away from the games on the field and instead focused on Swift being in attendance.
Swift was in Las Vegas to watch the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII and Robert Griffin III sent a message to critics who had a problem with it via his personal Twitter account.
“There was NOTHING WRONG with Taylor Swift being shown at the Super Bowl for 54 seconds of a 4-hour broadcast. Those upset need to realize that for the NFL, the Super Bowl is not about the hardcore football fan. It’s about growing the NFL brand,” Griffin said.

Former players and league personnel have come to defend Swift at games and it’s the same point that Griffin makes in the video.
Having someone with Swift’s reputation and fame showing genuine interest and excitement at NFL games only raises and grows the NFL’s brand and perception.
Assuming Swift and Kelce stay together until the 2024 NFL season, she will presumably be a constant at the games again.
Hopefully by then, more fans will accept her as one of their own and can move past thinking she is a distraction.
