The Indianapolis Colts have to feel great about the future of their franchise.

Despite just missing the playoffs this past season, they seem to have found their quarterback of the future.

The Colts selected Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick in the first round.

In a short timeframe of four games, Richardson proved to be worth it.

He showed all the physical traits that made him a top pick.

In those four games, he had seven total touchdowns and three turnovers.

But, an injury to his throwing shoulder cost him the rest of his rookie season.

Still, Richardson is expected to be ready to go at the start of the 2024 season, and that should excite Colts fans.

As noted on Twitter by Ian Rapoport, Richardson is progressing well in his rehab.

One issue for Richardson is that his dual-threat ability opens him up to a lot of injuries.

He suffered a shoulder injury and a concussion in only four weeks.

But, for him to reach his full potential the Colts need him out there for 17 games.

Hopefully, Colts head coach Shane Steichen will look for ways to help Richardson avoid getting hit.

We have seen many great players have their careers derailed due to injury.

That is not what anyone wants to see with Richardson.

The last franchise quarterback the Colts had was Andrew Luck, who retired early due to injuries.

It may be wise for the Colts to try and keep Richardson in the pocket more often to prevent any more injuries.
