Landing a job in the NFL pretty much means you’ll never be unemployed again.

Most assistant coaches always land on their feet, it doesn’t matter whether they’ve done a good or bad job.

Notably, Wink Martindale is the latest living proof of that.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the former New York Giants defensive coordinator has landed a new job already, as he’s set to join the Michigan Wolverines to serve in that same capacity.

Per the report, both parties are still working on the details of the deal, but there are not expected to be any hurdles to get past at this point.

The Giants let Martindale go after some inconsistent play last season.

It was a tale of two stories for the Giants, as they were tied for 1st in turnovers created but still finished 27th overall in total defense.

Moreover, it just felt like they had way too much talent on defense, and the results were far from what they expected.

Martindale will now replace Jesse Minter, who will follow Jim Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers as their next defensive coordinator.

Minter was instrumental in the Wolverines’ national title, orchestrating one of the most suffocating and efficient defensive units in the entire nation.

Still, this will be a smooth transition for the program, as Minter ran a version of Martindale’s defense.

The players are already familiar with the terminology and concepts, so they should be able to pick up things right where they left them in their championship-winning season.
