The Dallas Cowboys have had the ‘America’s Team’ distinction for quite a long time.

They used to be one of the strongest powerhouses in the NFL in their heyday.

And while that’s no longer the case anymore, they continue to hold one of the biggest fan bases in the sports industry.

Nonetheless, legendary spots commentator Bob Costas believes they should no longer be considered America’s Team.

Talking on CNN, Costas claimed that that name should go to the Kansas City Chiefs instead now (via Chiefs Concerns).

“I think the Chiefs now, can safely be said, are America’s team.,” Costas said.

Costas argued that the Cowboys haven’t been to the big game in almost three decades, while the Chiefs have been to four of the last 5 Super Bowls.

Love them or hate them, no one can discredit what Andy Reid’s team has been able to do since Patrick Mahomes took the reins as their starting quarterback.

The Chiefs could become the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls in almost twenty years, and this six-year run should already be considered among the greatest — if not the greatest — in the history of this league.

Still, they might not have as many supporters as the Cowboys, but this has been Patrick Mahomes’ league for quite a while, carrying Tom Brady’s torch and becoming the face of the NFL worldwide.

This take is definitely going to draw plenty of criticism and be discussed heavily and thoroughly.

But as much as Cowboys fans may not like it, Costas actually has a valid point with this unpopular opinion.
